If you're tired of the same cynical cycle, try the laundry basket method. Simply put, it's a mind-over-matter exercise that entails gathering everything that's out of place and keeping it in one spot for tidying later.

Start by grabbing a spare laundry basket (or a big box, if you don't have an extra hamper), then walk around your place and drop everything that isn't in the proper spot in it. Whatever is taking up space where it doesn't belong, chuck it in your basket.
