Owners Spent Only P280K for This Kubo-Inspired Home With Modern Tropical Interiors
A homeowner in Bukidnon shares how they built his family's dream abode.
The construction for John Paul Cortes Lamoste's family home in Bukidnon began in March 14, two days before the province was placed under ECQ because of the pandemic. As a result, one of the two workers who was supposed to help build the house wasn't able to return. He decided to push through with the project anyway, with only one other person acting as the builder, mason, architect, and engineer.
Around four months later, John Paul's humble abode was finally finished. Proud of their accomplishment, he shared photos of it on his Facebook page. The post became viral, with 26,000 shares as of writing. "Hindi ko po inakala na maraming magkakagusto sa aming bahay," the homeowner says in an interview. "Parang nakainspire po kami sa simpleng paraan."
The Lamoste home stands on a 200sqm lot, with extra space in front for a vegetable garden. According to John Paul, the total cost of the lot plus building the house came at around P280,000. To make the most out of their budget and local resources, he and his wife opted for a simple bamboo kubo-inspired exterior.
The couple invested more on their interiors because they wanted it to look bright and modern. The walls were painted white with touches of blue. They furnished the house with wooden doors and other pieces to match the natural materials on the outside.
