What is the best thing about owning a rest house in the province? If you ask the homeowners of this two-storey home in Laguna, it's the thought of having something to look forward to! After staying in their modern-minimalist condo in Manila for the better part of the week, they can go home to their charming country house every weekend.

To make the rest house even more inviting and enticing, interior designer Evangeline Lim stepped in. For a playful look, she paired classic country elements with bright colors and quirky patterns

What can you do with the bare wall near the entrance of your home? You can put up wall hooks for bags, jackets, or scarves. You can also install shelves for house keys, car keys, and other belongings.

Living Area

Since the country style may seem dated and old-fashioned sometimes, it is refreshing to see traditional country furniture with vibrant colors and interesting prints.

The living area is furnished with a customized patchwork sofa  and a fully upholstered chair with teal buttons and piping detail.

Kitchen and Dining Area

Another way to make your space more interesting is to use different patterns with same colors! In this kitchen and dining area, the kitchen island is spruced up with printed tiles that have neutral hues.

The kitchen island is also connected to a dining table, making it easier for the homeowners to prepare and enjoy meals for their family. They can simply serve the food from the pan to the plate.

Entertainment Room

Since the homeowner loved the brick walls in Calea, a popular cafe in Bacolod, the interior designer put up white bricks in the entertainment room! The rustic-industrial walls are complemented with a quirky blue deer head and a green L-shaped sofa. In the middle of the space is a tufted ottoman used as a coffee table.

Parents' Bedroom

The homeowner specifically asked for a bedroom on the first floor that her parents can sleep in when they are a little bit older. Since the space is located on the ground floor, it would be easier for them to enter this private sanctuary.

The interior designer chose a soothing color palette of gray, blue, and white. These muted shades can make the homeowners' parents feel more comfortable in the space.

Chevron Patterns

The interior designer also painted numbers and black-and-white chevron patterns on the steps of the stairs! These hand-painted details are surprising touches in this particular area.

Pendant Lamp

For a calm and soothing feel perfect for a rest house in the province, the interior designer chose a blue gray shade for these walls.

The high ceiling in this space is accentuated with a customized pendant lamp with a bright yellow hue.

Master Bedroom

Since most country-inspired cottages have wooden walls, the interior designer picked out a quirky wood-print wallpaper for the master bedroom. She paired this with a gray tufted headboard and a queen-size bed with blue-and-white pillows and sheets.
