What's so great about living in the heart of the city? For the couple who owns this four-storey townhouse, urban living is ideal because it brings them closer to loved ones, work, school, and other things that matter to them! However, every now and then, being in the midst of everything can make any homeowner want to take a break and get away from it all.

To help them get the best of both worlds— the conveniences of city living and the comforts of a rest house in the province, interior designer Jean Suzanne Sy filled the space with earth colors and modern items with rustic touches

If you would like to create a calming home in the heart of the city, you should pay special attention to the entrance! Since the foyer welcomes guests and sets the mood for the rest of the house, it should leave a lasting impression.

In line with the idea of having a vacation home in the city, the foyer is filled with whitewashed shelves, a chest of drawers, and a bench leaning against the wall. For a quaint and rustic appeal, the items are all covered in white paint.

This customized wall mirror makes the small space seem bigger than it really is. The homeowners can also use it to check their appearance before leaving their four-storey townhouse.

Living Area

The living area can be found on the second floor of the home! Jean chose window treatments, furniture pieces, and even an area rug in neutral shades. These light earth colors make the space feel like a rest house in the province.

Decorative bird cages, faux plants, and vintage-style boxes used as a side table also add to the old-world charm of the space.

Dining Area

If your living and dining area can also be found in the same space, you may also want to use similar elements!

For this particular home, Jean used the same black pendant lamps in the living and dining areas. The sofa and the dining chairs also have similar light-colored fabrics and are both lined with dark brass studs along the edges.

What's the best way to personalize a standard kitchen? You can consider painting the old cabinet doors! In this particular space, Jean chose a chic gray color that looks posh and polished.

Home Office

On the third floor is a home office right outside the master bedroom and walk-in closet. To make the most of the small space, the interior designer lined the wall with shelves, a magnetic board, and a built-in desk

Behind the work desk is a gray-and-white striped wall spruced up with a pretty bird print, a dainty birdcage message board, and a framed inspirational quote.

Master Bedroom

Another way to turn a home in the city into a relaxing retreat is to use nature-inspired details like floral-print bedsheets and framed photos of birds and flowers, as seen in this master bedroom.

Master Bathroom

One of the doors in the master bedroom leads to this well-appointed master bathroom. The space is simple and modest but it is perfect for the young couple.

Walk-in Closet

Next to the master bedroom is the walk-in closet for the lady of the home. The whitewashed shelves provide more than enough space for the accessories stored in clear plastic containers.

In the middle of the space is a movable storage option with a glass top that makes it easier for the homeowner to find what she needs for the day.
