A Modern Home with an Oriental Charm
Pops of color and Asian accents liven up a family’s three-bedroom townhouse
For a family of five, moving from a one-storey, two-bedroom apartment in Binondo to a spacious three-bedroom townhouse is a welcome change. All design decisions for their new space were left with the eldest, Marilyn, who in turn worked with interior designer Carmen Lim. Together, they came up with a modern oriental theme that suited the simple taste of Marilyn’s parents.
When turned over, the unit was all-white so to make it more welcoming, Marilyn decided to add hints of color to the space. They decided to go with a peppermint shade for the walls as they want something that’s easy on the eyes. Most of the pieces in the living and dining areas were custom-made by Modern Design Furniture by Mity Mike, Inc. These are merged with the family’s existing wooden pieces such as the buffet table and the refurbished piano. Proud bearers of the family’s Chinese roots – oriental accents such as figures and framed prints were added as well.
