A mix of high-end designer pieces and retail accents go together well to create a welcoming bachelor pad.

Acquiring a property from his showbiz earnings is quite an achievement for young actor Gerald Anderson. He took this milestone to heart, and was very excited in decorating the home that he worked hard for. When the house by architect Noel Lardizabal Tugas was completed, he hired interior designer Anla Li to help renovate and spruce up the house.

Gerald was very hands-on with the project, providing photos and ideas to incorporate in his home. The result was exactly what he wanted: a modern and masculine home with jolts of color.

House Façade

The house, sitting on a 312-square-meter property, is a modern and masculine structure. Gerald’s architect Noel Lardizabal Tugas created a design with steel, glass, and clean lines.

Since the kapamily actor wanted pops of color in his home, the narra front door is painted red.

Living Room

Gerald’s living area is bathed in natural light, thanks to the tall glass windows that go all the way to the second-floor ceiling. He says the new look is a big departure from the house’s early days, when the living room only had the gray couch, two metal chairs, a center table, and a gray rug.

In the living room, two wrought-iron chairs from Pampanga serve as seating options. A wrought-iron lattice divider conceals an air conditioning unit.

A popular center table by Japanese sculptor Isamu Noguchi is paired with a patterned area rug from Décor in Shagri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong.

Dining Room with Bar

The dining room is furnished with streamlined pieces, including the black dining table, chairs, and benches.

A colorful abstract painting and statement walls brighten up the dining room. A small bar divides the dining area and the kitchen.

Kitchen with Breakfast Nook

This dirty kitchen was once an open space for laundry that also provided easy access to the garage. In November 2009, Gerald renovated it with the help of Jude Cialbo of Aquarius Design.

Gerald’s kitchen has a bar and countertop made of black granite tiles, and modular cabinets made of melamine boards of a light grayish-brown color with copper accents. For visual interest, portions of the walls are covered in mosaic tiles in deep blue and black. The Krups coffeemaker is a gift from a fan who lives abroad.

Breakfast Nook

In the middle of the kitchen is a small dining area where Gerald enjoys his breakfast—when his schedule permits him to have breakfast! Where once there were black plastic chairs, now there are leather-upholstered, black wooden chairs and a matching table.

Since the house is so modern, gleaming and polished hardwood floors add warmth to the space.

Entertainment Room

The focal point of the second floor entertainment room is a 65-inch Panasonic flat-screen TV. A modern L-shaped couch has a matching ottoman used as a center table. The entertainment console’s linear shelves echo the house’s overall design.

The cozy bedroom has warm-colored walls and a coved ceiling. In keeping with the masculine theme, the sheets and throw pillows are . A small black leather couch sits at the foot of the bed. Above the headboard hangs a portrait of Gerald done by Lex Marcos.

Gerald’s bathroom follows a modern design aesthetic and features a color palette of black and white with bold touches of red.

White pebbles are placed under Gerald’s sink because he told his architect that he wanted a spare design that matches his spare grooming ritual. “Sa akin, hilamos lang, lalo na pag may makeup ang mukha ko after taping,” the young actor says. “Bago ako matutulog, kahit gaano ako kapagod, naghihilamos ako. ’Yon lang.”

Brother’s Room

The bedroom of Gerald’s younger brother is furnished with a double decker bed. The actor saw a similar bed in a magazine and was inspired to have one made.“Maganda naman, di ba?” says Gerald. “At saka, mahilig naman siya magpatulog ng mga kaibigan niya.”
