5 Small Space Makeovers from 5 to 30 Square Meters

Be inspired with the incredible changes in these limited areas, including a 5sqm bedroom, a 24sqm studio, and a 30sqm home

Many young professionals and small families are forced to live in humble abodes with just one bedroom each and a little room to spare. After all, a small space is an affordable choice for those on a limited budget.

However, living within your means doesn’t mean that you have to scrimp on style! Here are five decorating ideas from some of our favorite small space makeovers.

Be creative

With the help of junior designers Kimi Manuel and Ycah Villena, interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo transformed the 5sqm bedroom of two girls. Since they did not have enough space to work with, Kristine could not create a typical study area complete with a work desk. She decided to solve the problem with a pull down desk that can easily be stored.

Choose a divider

For this 24sqm studio unit, interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo and her makeover team (Kimi Manuel, Karen Corpuz, and Lizamar dela Cruz) used colors and accents to spruce up the space. The team also added a string curtain to separate the different areas. It divides the small space while maintaining the open and airy atmosphere.

Hide your belongings

In only two weeks, the interior designer managed to completely change this 30sqm family home. In order to keep the space clean and clutter-free, he provided the family with more storage options. In the kids’ bedroom, woven baskets underneath the bed are now used to store toys.

Opt for light colors

For this home found on the fifth floor of a residential building, interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino chose a soft yellow hue for the walls. The shade opens up the limited area and makes the place seem warm and cozy.

The designer has extended the calming color scheme to the side drapes: “Yellow was also applied to the side drapes of the curtains, which provided a softer texture versus the old roll-up shades.”

Find multi-purpose furniture

Interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino also worked her magic on this 60sqm apartment of a young couple and their two-year-old daughter. Since they were short on floor space, Hannah chose essential pieces that could serve different purposes. For example, she opted for a bright green sofa bed that could be used to sit on or sleep on.
