Q: Though I'm not much into colors, I'm getting tired of our kitchen cabinets' bland white finish. My sister suggested painting them, but I'm nervous about picking out the wrong shade. Are there any other options aside from painting? How about covering them with wallpaper or fabric? I want a new look that's easy to maintain but will still look great in years to come.—Ms. CD

A: Your sister is right, the easiest and cheapest way to change the look of your cabinets would be to paint them! If you're afraid of picking the wrong color, I suggest going for a subtle change. Go for colorful neutrals or soft shades like butter yellow.
