Q: Lately, I've been trying to re-decorate my home. I would like to know what kind of paint would be best for painting lamp bases. I have two lamps that used to be gold and I don't want to get rid of them because of their classic curves. How do I prepare these items for repainting?

A: To prepare your lamps for painting, you have to remove the rust with chemical cleaners. After cleaning the bases, paint them with a rustproof primer, and finish off with enamel paint. You can buy cleaning solutions, primers, and enamel paints at your local hardware store or home depot. Good luck!
