Q: My fiance and I can't seem to decide between a modest one-bedroom condominium unit that's a stone's throw away from our offices and a more spacious two-bedroom apartment with a small garden that's about 30 minutes away. The prices are about the same. Kindly help us weigh the pros and cons.—Michelle, Pasig City

A: It really depends on what you value more: space or time. Because if you value time more, you would definitely benefit from a home that's near your workplace—less time for commuting, more time to devote to things that you want to do. We all know that 30 minutes can easily blow up to one hour or more because of the traffic.

However, if you value space more, it's best to invest in the two-bedroom apartment. If you have a lot of stuff, this will provide you with more room for storage. The extra room could also serve as a nursery if having a child is part of your immediate plans. And, a garden is always a delightful, de-stressing bonus in any home.
