How do you get away from the hustle and bustle of city life? Do you schedule a trip out of town? Do you book a trip out of the country? Or do you simply stay at home and refrain from checking your gadgets?

An easy way to relax and take a break would be to spend some quiet time in the comfort of your outdoor space—may it be a sprawling garden or a cozy balcony. Spruce up this part of the house with the help of some ideas we loved from these homes.

Balcony with a view

In this 190sqm unit, the owners are fortunate to have a special place where they can admire the view of the city skyline while enjoying refreshments.

For your space: If you also have the perks of a condo balcony, create a cozy nook by adding comfy pillows, a sofa, and a table where you can display some plants.

RL Tip: If you're having friends over, you can entertain them in the balcony. Prepare extra chairs and pillows so everyone will be comfortable.

Meditation corner

This extraordinary bahay kubo highlights eccentric angles, wide open spaces, and floor-to-ceiling windows. It also has a koi pond that's reminiscent of a calming tropical getaway. The metal chairs were purposefully added to guests can admire the view and relax.

For your space: If you also have a garden at home, you can craft your own meditation corner by placing a couple of chairs in a shaded area. You can add a couple of pillows and use the same space when reading or if you simply want to take a break.

Picturesque garden

One would think that this home is located in Tagaytay or Baguio—but this charming home was built on a 200sqm lot in Antipolo. We can't help but fall in love with the relaxing garden that gives guests a view of the lush landscape. It also allows them to enjoy the cool breeze.

For your space: While you can always spend some quiet time in the garden with a good book or a few calming tunes, you can make the most of the space by turning it into an ideal venue for parties and gatherings. Be ready with chairs, tables, and patio umbrellas.

Simple, open, and airy

Designed by architect Dan Co, this 600sqm property is airy and spacious, with its open plan layout and free-flowing spaces. In the balcony, a few pieces were added to highlight the breathtaking view of the ocean and clear skies.

For your space: Avoid clutter in your outdoor area by choosing multipurpose pieces like an ottoman, stools, and a side table. Find the beauty in simplicity by prioritizing function.

An open lanai

In this tropical Asian home designed by architect Jerry Isles, the living and dining areas can be extended to the lanai—giving the impression of a bigger space. The garden somehow becomes part of the house—bringing the outdoors in.

For your space: The owners of this home opted to do the landscaping on their own—choosing plants that are easy to care for. You can also do the same by adding plants that do not require too much attention. Start by growing herbs and indoor plants then take it from there.
