Aubrey Miles’s home is proof that big and small plants can instantly turn a home in the city into a tranquil sanctuary. Aside from letting us in on a few decorating ideas involving plants and giving us hints on where to shop for green wonders, the actress/fitness trainer also knows how to style a pocket garden—as seen on her posts on Instagram.

From adding colorful pieces to mixing and matching woven planters, Aubrey has a knack for turning dull corners into captivating nooks where plants take the spotlight. Whether you’re revamping your own green corner or you’re in the process of starting one, here are ideas and must-haves to keep in mind:

1. Make it functional with seating pieces.

Plants can help you achieve a serene vibe at home. After a long day, a few quiet minutes with your favorite blooms and potted plants can help calm your nerves and reduce stress. Keep your pocket garden functional by adding a comfy chair where you can sit, drink tea, and meditate. You can also allot some space for poufs and ottomans to make it more relaxing.

2. Liven up a tall space with macramé planters.

If your pocket garden is in the balcony or near a huge window, maximizing the available height is a must. Hanging woven planters are excellent options you can work with. To give the setup a Boho appeal, you can work with macramé planters in different sizes. Click here to learn how you can create your own planter.

3. Create a spa-like appeal with lamps.

Himalayan Salt Lamps are gaining a following lately as it’s known to purify the air and help you get a good night’s sleep. Achieve a snug pocket garden where you can enjoy refreshments and relish weekend afternoons by placing a Himalayan Salt Lamp on a low coffee table that can also hold your books and refreshments.

4. Don’t be afraid to play with colors.

While touches of green are enough to liven up even the smallest of pocket gardens, additional hints of color won’t hurt. A colorful area rug can add a quirky and psychedelic vibe to the space to make it fun and playful. Avoid a busy, overdecorated look by choosing rugs with colors that complement green. In Aubrey’s home, a rug with hints of yellow, teal, and fuchsia works well.

Find multicolored rugs at Wilcon Depot.

5. Polish the look with sleek furniture pieces.

Even if you only have a corner to work with, you can still create an IG-worthy setup. Visit secondhand shops and schedule a trip to your favorite home store to hunt for pretty side tables that can hold small potted plants and other décor pieces. A table with slim legs can stand tall in a hallway or in a corner near the living area. Anchor it with a simple area rug for a streamlined aesthetic.
