DIY: Garden Markers

Add a personal touch to your green corner with this fun project

Have you ever experienced setting up an herb garden then a few weeks later, you've already forgotten what you planted and what grew sprouts?

Garden labels are more important than we think. Aside from protecting the herbs from falling over the pots, it's a great way of distinguishing the weeds from what you need to nourish. Before you delve into working with more plant varieties, here's a project that you can work on over the weekend:

What you need:

  • Oven-bake Polymer clay rolled into 1.25″ balls (one ball for each marker)
  • Baking dish
  • Rolling pin
  • Butter knife
  • Rubber letter stamps

RL Tip: Don't know where to buy oven-bake polymer clay? You can get your hands on some via Claytoons on Facebook

  • Roll each clay ball into a coil about 5.5 inches long.
  • Flatten the coils to at least an inch thick with your rolling pin.
  • Use the dull side of your knife to cut the ends into a point. Afterwards, shape the edges of each marker with the flat side of your knife. Finish off by smoothing out any imperfections using your hands.
  • Write on your garden markers using the rubber letter stamps and label them accordingly.
  • Transfer the markers into your baking dish and bake them according to the clay package instructions.
