Container gardening is perfect for those who want to try their hand at gardening. You can start a mini garden as a way of destressing and escaping the demands of work. “I started a small garden to give myself a relaxing activity that will take me away from a computer screen. Being around greens feels really great!” shares Joanne Bohol of Black Thumb MNL.

If you are ready to work on your garden, here are  five plants that will surely make it a breeze for you:

Shot on location at Black Thumb MNL.

This fast-growing herb is easy to care for! Remember to water it every other day or every two days and trim regularly to tame its growth.

DO: Place your pot of mind in partially shades areas. You can keep it indoors but locate it by a window where it can get enough morning sunlight.

DON'T: Do not pot your mint with other plants as it grows aggressively and can choke other greens.

Italian oregano and Cuban oregano

“They make sauces and meat dishes really flavorful,” says Joanne.

DO: Place it in sunny spots but keep in mind that they also appreciate shade once in a while. Let the soil dry in between watering. Regular pruning encourages bushy growth as well.

Rosemary grows up to four feet, so be sure to place it where there’s enough headroom.

DO: This herb is a pretty hard bunch. Trim it regularly before the plant flowers to encourage more leafy growth. Water it evenly every two days, and keep it where there's bright light.

DON'T: Don't put it under direct sunlight.

Also called coleus, mayana is a vibrant plant that comes in variations and combinations of green, pink, and maroon leaves. Some variants love full sunlight, while others thrive in partial shade.

DO: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Mayana, as with other plants shown here, is easy to propagate.

Tsitsirika (periwinkle)

This pretty, perennial flowering plant is also sun-loving. “As its stalks tend to shoot up in one, long growth, pruning is essential to encourage sideway growth,” says Joanne.

RL Tip: Opt for organic pesticides to keep insects at bay.
