DIY: A Candle Holder turned into a Succulent Planter

Decorate your home with these recycled must-haves

Aside from old cabinets and mason jars, there are items at home that you can repurpose into planters for your charming succulents. One of these items is a wooden candle holder used for votive candles!

If you have a wooden votive candle holder that can keep five candles, you can work on this project then display it by your door or windowsill. Be guided by the steps below.

  • Wooden candle holder
  • Succulents
  • Chosen Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Sand or Soil
  • Rocks
  • Gloves
  • Additional pebbles or gravel (optional)
  • Use an old newspaper to cover your work area.
  • Clean your wooden candle holder thoroughly. Once dry, paint it using your chosen hue. Leave it to dry.
  • Once the paint is dry, start transferring your succulents. Add layers of rock or gravel at the bottom.
  • Add some potting soil then prepare the succulent that you want to use. Massage the base of the plant until the soil crumbles while making sure that the roots aren't destroyed.
  • Create a small well in the soil then place your plant in middle. Fill the space with soil then press it down after each addition to secure the plant.
  • You may dress up the arrangement with pebbles and rocks.
  • If your candle holder has five holes, repeat the same steps until you've filled each hole with a plant.
  • Display your project once done.
