Party Kitchen Basics

Q: My husband and I want to entertain more. I have a tiny kitchen, but what type should I have considering that I don’t cook but I love to entertain? What should I have in my pantry? What utensils and tools should I stock up on?—Lex, Mandaluyong City

A: Stock up on a variety of serving dishes—even if you have food delivered, you'll look like you slaved all day in the kitchen.  But fill your pantry with the basics as well. Check out www.realsimple.com for their Pantry Staples Checklist. Stock up on plates, flatware, and cloth napkins—these will make your guests feel special. For bigger parties, bring out the chafing dishes and necessary serving spoons, and make sure to have a set of matching tablecloths—I've found beautiful and inexpensive fabric in Divisoria and just had them sewn to size. And lastly, put together a beverage bar with pitchers, ice buckets, glasses and cups and saucers, tea and coffee, and other drinks.

Toilet Hunt

Q: We’re looking for an affordable water closet. Where can we find a budget-friendly water closet that can also fit a small space? —Daday Madeloso Garcia via Facebook

A: Pozzi, Cool, Saveflush, and American Standard are just some of the brands that have reasonably priced water closets which cost around around P4,000 and up. You can find them at major hardware stores like Wilcon Depot, CW Home Depot, MC Home Depot, and others. If you want more bang for your buck, check with the store if they have packages that include the sink and accessories.
