What Is A Sunroom And How Do You Make One At Home?

Build a special, relaxing little sunroom for your home with the help of these five pieces

We’ve heard of gardens or greenhouses at home, but if you want to try something else, why not create your very own sunroom? If you're curious, a sunroom is a room in the house with large windows or a glass or polycarbonate roof that lets a lot of natural sunlight in. It could give your house a bright, airy, and optimistic feel.

With the help of a couple of staple pieces, it’s not as tricky to create your own sunroom. And you don't even need to build a glass roof—it could be as easy as just removing all your existing window treatments and curtains to let the light in.

Here are the pieces you need to create a stunning sunroom, as inspired by the gorgeous Portland-and-France-inspired home of Kai and Cyrus.

A daybed

One of the things the homeowners always do in their sunroom is to relax and spend time with their pet dogs. And what better way to lounge around than in a daybed? You can lie down and get a bit of sun, take a quick siesta, or maybe even try to get some work done.

Plants

Since the sunroom is an area which receives a lot of natural light, it is the perfect place to put a couple of plants. You may even take things up a notch by mounting the pots on the wall. Your plants will never get hungry here!

Customized furniture pieces

The sunroom is not only great for having your morning coffee or for growing your houseplants, but can also serve as a nice receiving area for your guests. Complete it with simple and functional furniture pieces, like this set of a table and chairs, and a cabinet for storage.

An interesting decorative item

Sometimes, just one beautiful piece of décor can elevate the look of any space. For this couple, the focal point of their sunroom is a commissioned artwork featuring the word “Home” in the languages of the countries they had visited in recent years, written in calligraphy.

Mood lighting

In Kai and Cyrus’ sunroom, they added some interesting string lights, which will undoubtedly add even more of a charming vibe to this already-charming area when lit at night. In your own sunroom, make sure to include cute lighting fixtures to amplify the cozy mood.
