Table Setting Ideas

These students give a promising show of what they’ve learned in their interior styling class

The instruction for the final requirement of an interior styling class was deceptively simple: style a table setting for two. See the remarkable outputs of the students in these first two settings.

No Garden Variety

By Ivy Jusay, Kim Lianko Sy, and Jedana Orosa

Elegant topiaries flank a perfectly symmetrical arrangement, while traditional place settings are offset by Tiffany party chairs updated in transparent acrylic. This table is neither too formal not too cutesy, It’s supposed to be unique and unexpected so we based the design on our personalities,” says Kim.

The sweet combination of cool hues and pieces makes for a dainty vignette – from the peacock design of the table runner to the delicate arrangement of the violet roses. Though there is a subtle restraint to avoid too much femininity, the group’s work still comes out elegant.

Warhol Gone Victorian

By Czarinah Manzano, Cathy Mendoza, and Bianca Roble

With the House of Cebu (a Pop Art- themed hotel in Cebu) as their inspiration, it was decided from the start that the color scheme would revolve around the vibrant hued and patterned tablecloth chosen to complement the salmon pink wall.

Pop art prints are prominently displayed in intricate frames, providing a cool combination of something hip and classic. “The design was a collective process,” they say.” We had fun doing this because we knew what we wanted from the start.”

To achieve a youthful, vibrant look, Czarinah, Cathy, and Bianca made use of DIY colorful bottles, eye- popping artwork, and plates in bold hues. They also breathed new life to a classic pair of chairs by reupholstering it in teal fabric. The result? A whimsical take on an unexpected combination.

Real Tip: Temper varied patterns and layers by grounding everything in a defined color palette.
