It might be chilly outside, but you can still experience the warmth of summer at home. With parties happening left and right, you may want to schedule a simple brunch with friends instead. A late morning get-together gives you plenty of time to catch up without worrying about rush hour traffic jams. The best part? You can decorate the dining area and turn it into a picturesque outdoor-inspired venue. Get started with these ideas:

Pick a color palette based on the theme.

For a picnic-inspired setup, you can take inspiration from the great outdoors. Colors such as greens, browns, and other light picks can set the mood in your space. Hints of green can also make your guests feel refreshed and ready for a sweet feast. Pair green with blue and white for a calming setup.

Shop for a green ceramic vase and faux green leaves at The Landmark, Makati City.

Complete the setup with revitalizing scents.

Whether you’re having the get-together indoors or by the garden, a soothing scent that repels bugs and mosquitoes may come in handy. You can never go wrong with citronella or lavender.

Citronella humidifiers are available at True Value.

Set up a charming vignette for a polished look.

Don’t just leave the candles and humidifiers on the floor. Place these on top of a vintage or woven suitcase to tie the look of your setting together. If you don’t have a suitcase, a woven pouf will do.

Mix-and-match your linen.

The good thing about brunches is it can be carefree and casual—no need for fancy accessories. Spruce up the table with printed napkins and a charming tablecloth. Pair it with dinnerware in solid colors.

Decorate with plants.

If you’re having the get-together indoors, it’s best to let the plants shine. Choose some of your potted wonders that you can place in a corner of the dining area. You may also place small potted succulents on the table as décor.

Work on a low-rise centerpiece.

When working on table settings, remember that you need to pick decorative items that do not interfere with the passing of dishes nor block the view of your friends. Opt for mini cupcake stands that double as your centerpiece. You can also add small vases and candleholders as part of your setup.

Use basic dinnerware.

Bring out plates depending on the food you’ll serve. In most brunches, only one plate is used. You can serve fruits on salad plates. Keep things simple with white as it’s a versatile choice that you can pair with other colors.
