RL Tips: Styling Your Bedside Table

Let your table showcase your personality with the help of these tips from stylist Pam Tan

Bedside tables are important additions to any bedroom as these pieces can keep your essentials organized. You may place some of your accessories on top of it, you may add a table lamp, and if you love to read before going to sleep -- it can hold a couple of books, too. A chic and well-kept bedside table adds character and style to your bedroom.

Stylist Pam Tan shares these nifty ideas to help you maximize your bedside table.

How to make it work:

Know your bedside habits.

It’s important to know how the bedside table will be used. If you’re a busy person who uses your bedroom solely for sleep, then the table should hold only the essentials: table lamp, clock, vase, and a few books. But if you work in your bedroom, you can use your night table with layers, like a nesting table. If the furniture is used in a guest room, leave it bare so that your guests have room for their personal belongings.

Arrange bedside items properly.

Pam suggests observing the “triangle” rule. Add height to your items as if forming a pyramid, one item being the tallest, and the rest layered down a tall object. You can place one item on top of a box or a stack of books. Keep items to a minimum of three or five.

RL Tip: Don’t forget to play with textures, colors, and shapes. “Placing a chrome-finished table lamp base with mirrored boxes and colored-glass flower vases is more interesting than having everything in every color,” Pam advises.

Throw in an area rug for warmth.

If your bedroom has tiled flooring, it’s best to have an area rug by the bedside to keep your feet warm in the morning. However, if you have pets roaming around you room, Pam suggests doing away with the idea to prevent stains and dirt.
