RL Picks: Top 8 Family Kitchens

Be inspired with these spaces meant for preparing and sharing meals with loved ones

The modern kitchen has these important elements: a stove, a sink with running water, a refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. Once the space is completed with these, personalized details can add charm and character to the area.

Here are 8 family kitchens that can inspire you to change your own cooking corner:

1960s-style Bungalow turned into a Rest House Interior designer Wilmer Lopez of WLopez Designs transformed this 1960s-style bungalow into a stylish vacation home. Filled with mid-century modern furniture and vintage details, the Antipolo house is a comfortable space.

The same Scandinavian-style color theme is employed in the kitchen, from the white tiles and bar counter to the bleached wood cabinets and bar stools. The kitchen overhead cabinet doors open upwards, and the translucent glass makes it easier to see what’s inside. A Fernando Zobel piece is displayed atop the cabinets.

Two-storey Modern Filipino Townhouse Architect Lara Fernandez-Barrios and husband JB changed their 208sqm, two-storey townhouse through extensive construction work, wooden floors from old buildings, and antique wooden furniture.

For a clean and streamlined look in the kitchen, the cabinets have no knobs or handles. The warm appeal of the wooden cabinet doors is complemented by shiny stainless-steel finishes. A white ceiling fan hangs over the kitchen island to make the space airy and comfortable.

Three-Storey House with a Black-and-White Palette For their three-storey space, long-time friends Andoy Ranay and Peter Serrano decided on a black and white palette inspired by French interiors.

Andoy convinced Peter to cover the black kitchen cabinet doors with wallpaper that has a line-drawn wine bottle pattern. The subtle but interesting print is a personalized touch in the compact but well-used kitchen. The space also serves as a breakfast nook complete with a four-seater dining set from Peter's old condo unit. The table and stools have been painted black to match the rest of the space.

A Country Home filled with Blues and Whites In Nenet and Butch Nolasco's home, the space becomes even more special because of the affordable antiques. The couple found pieces from a Rustan's Department Store sale in the 1980s, a junk shop, a neighbor's pile of old furniture, and even a carinderia.

For a country look, wallpaper borders are paired with royal blue walls. The vivid shade complements the warm look created by the varnish on the wooden cabinets.

Modern Filipino Family Home In this contemporary space designed by architect Jouie Rumpal Tumanda, the clean lines, white walls, and clear floor-to-ceiling windows emphasize the beauty of the pieces made from natural materials. The earthy colors and rich textures of the wooden elements lend warmth to the space.

The kitchen is completed with custom-made pieces like the distressed wood-framed cabinets with frosted glass and metal chairs. To fit the theme of the house, the wood used for the cabinets has an antique look. Warm mood lighting under the cabinets and a row of small droplights above the kitchen island illuminate the area.
