RL Ideas: Japanese-Inspired Interiors (Part 1)

Cute and adorable --- inject your home with a dose of hip and fun culture

We're sure you've dropped by Saizen and Japan Home Center. We're even more sure that you are familiar with Sanrio and that you have watched anime shows and read manga. We bet that you even know what kawaii means! Though the Japanese term kawaii literally means “cute”, it can be an umbrella concept for anything that’s quirky and pretty in a Japanese sense.

According to freelance writer Chinggay Labrador—a fan of kawaii herself—colors and quirky details endear Pinoys to the style: “Some of the more kawaii shops, homes, cafes, and restaurants bank on more ‘excessive’ aesthetics, where color plays a big part and so do the little details that fill up every nook and cranny (think Hello Kitty on crack!).”

Thinking of adding some kawaii style into your home? Let this first Japanese-inspired aesthetic inspire you to add color and attitude to your interiors.

Picks by Kathleen Valle. Photographed by Jun Pinzon (unless stated otherwise).
