See How This Mom Repurposed Her Baby's Old Crib Into a Study Table

For most Pinay moms, cribs aren’t always top of mind as a baby essential. On SmartParenting.com.ph's parenting community, Smart Parenting Village, they often ask whether it's worth getting a wooden crib — it’s beautiful and look good in photos, but “baka sayang lang,” if they only get to use it sparingly.
But one mom in the Village had a genius idea to make the use of cribs more sulit — she converted it into a play desk and study table for her toddler!
This is how the crib looked like before it was repurposed:
“Yung crib po na ‘yun, bigay sa’min ng uncle ng live-in-partner ko. Hindi na nila ginagamit kaya kaysa nakatambak binigay na samin para sa second baby,” shares Mary Jane Pazon, 24, a stay-at-home mom of two.
She admits that she only used the wooden crib when her youngest son, Jasper, was a newborn up to his fourth month, since their uncle gave them another hand-me-down crib with net on the sides. “Ginamit namin siya ulit nung nag-pa-practice na maglakad si Jasper, para stable ‘yung inaapakan niya,” Mary Jane adds.
As her son grew older and they transitioned into a puzzle mat, the crib was again relegated to the sides. But they found another use for it as toy storage.
“Sa sobrang daming toys, wala nang mapaglagyan, kaya ginawa namin, tinanggal namin ‘yung isang gilid para mapaglagyan ng mga laruan,” the mom shares.
That’s when Mary Jane realized that the crib had potential for other uses. While browsing her social media accounts, the mom spotted a study table that was repurposed from a crib. She asked her partner, Melko Podiotan, to do the same thing with the one they owned, since Jasper was 3 years old already.
Luckily, her partner was ever the handyman. He just had to make a few adjustments to the crib to turn it into a study table.
He removed the hinges and placed a piece of illustration board on the desk space. The side wall that they removed was attached to the back and it’s where Mary Jane placed alphabet flash cards.
“Pinaconvert ko na kay Melko para alam na ni Jasper na nag-aaral kami, para makikinig na siya sa’kin,” Mary Jane shares. “Kaya alam niya na ‘pag study time dun na talaga kami pupwesto.”
Now Jasper has a dedicated study area, and the family didn’t even have to spend much for it. From a hand-me-down crib to a study table — definitely laking tipid!
