Practical Tips For Collecting Art From An Art Gallery Owner

Art gallery owner Albert Avellana stresses that artwork really enhances a house, and that you don't have to be filthy rich to acquire or find good art. "Iba ang nagagawa na may art sa bahay, iba talaga ang feel, iba ang dating, kasi art is very personal,'" he says. Here are his top tips if you're exploring the world of oil paintings and tall sculptures:

1. Start with children's art or family photos.

"Kung wala ka pang budget to buy paintings, you can start with your kids' works or family photos, kasi you're connected with that," Albert says. "Maganda yung kids' works dahil yung expressions, very honest." 

2. Don't stick to a movement or theme.

"Get whatever you like. It doesn't have to be thematic, basta in the end, they gel. Kung gusto mo ang art, ikaw 'yan. It's a reflection of you."

3. Don't collect for the sake of collecting. 

"The homeowners should not just think kung sino ang collectible ngayon, kahit sabihin nila for investment. Invest first for yourself kasi everyday makikita mo 'yan so dapat sulit 'yan." 

4. Display and frame it properly.

"Get assistance kung paano mo i-enhance or how to put it up and frame it," Albert advises. "Kahit yung art projects ng bata, i-box frame mo na parang art installation to make it look ten times better."
