Whether you’re a true-blue beach babe or a sailing pro, you’d probably agree when we say that living in the heart of the city is tough for someone who loves the island life. While we can’t promise you a weekly getaway, we can help you bring the dock and the ocean into your home with a few design tweaks that aren't just pretty—they're budget-friendly, too. Here are a few ideas you can try:

Light washed wood is a vital element in a nautical-inspired space and the best way to incorporate it in a room is through furniture. A natural teakwood dining table paired with white chairs is a great way to achieve a clean aesthetic.

When it comes to thematic decor, it’s all about the details. Complete the coastal vibe of your home by injecting small items that remind you of your favorite things about the beach—it can be cross-stitched wall art (as seen in photo), a trinket, or anything that puts you in a better mood.

Experimenting with different shades of blue is almost a given for styling a nautical space. To keep your display from becoming a giant swatch of navy, consider playing with basic patterns like stripes or chevron through the bedding or drapes.

If you don’t feel like going all-out cabin home, try going through the art route. Hang a statement print or a painting of what you love about the island life. You can even have a photo you took yourself from a memorable trip framed for a personal touch.

Do you enjoy collecting rocks and seashells as souvenirs from your sailing trips? Try making a centerpiece out of them by putting together a mini-vignette. Feel free to add tiny succulents for a surprising touch of nature.
