Murals Can Do More Than Liven Up Your Space
These works of art aren't your typical eye candy
Aside from displaying photographs and showcasing wall accents, many homeowners turn to murals to add an extra oomph to their homes. These wall wonders can add delightful touches of color, captivate guests, and set your home apart from the rest. If you can’t decide if this design move is for you, interior stylist Jerome Sauco (who designed the space below) shares these insights:
Murals can make small rooms look bigger.
"Remember to use small patterns in your mural so that it won't crowd the space even more," says Jerome. Leaves or small geometric shapes would work.
In big rooms, use it to draw people in.
There's a tendency to feel lost inside a cavernous room. To pull people or furniture in, Jerome suggests you install murals with big patterns.
Use your chosen mural to soften square, boxy spaces.
"Paint the mural directly on the wall, and don't put a frame around it if you want the space to look softer," shares Jerome. "Frames tend to make spaces look square or boxy."
Install murals in rooms with more or less consistent temperature if you're using stickers.
"Stickers have a tendency to peel or to turn yellow if the temperature around it fluctuates," says Jerome. "Use stickers only if the temperature in the room is consistent. Otherwise, as in the Philippines, paint the mural directly on the wall."
