Jumpstart Your Day: 6 Space Savvy Built-in Ideas for Tiny Starter Homes
Give your space a boost while keeping it organized
Many starter homes usually measure around 40sqm or less. Given the small space challenge, homeowners come up with creative storage hacks to maximize the area and keep it spotless.
Whether you're planning a quick home improvement project or simply looking for ideas to give your home an efficient upgrade, here are ideas that you can consider:
Maximize the space around the television by building a customized console rather than buying one. While you can choose to go the DIY route, you may want to ask help from an experienced carpenter.
By customizing the piece, you can have as many cubbies as needed. We suggest going for a floor-to-ceiling design and painting it the same color as the wall for a seamless look.

The wall above the water closet is usually blank—making it an ideal storage spot. Consider having a built-in shelf where you can keep toiletries, medicines, towels, and a couple of small decor pieces.

Carving out a spot on the wall might be a huge task to take on so if you have a trusted carpenter, he can help you turn this idea into reality. Built-in shelves do not take up floor space and help avoid clutter, too. Do this by the shower area and use it to store extra towels.
If you're planning on doing this in the kitchen, you can use the space for condiments and cooking tools as these are items that usually eat up counter space.

Instead of the usual headboard, you may want to have built-in dressers, floating shelves, and overhead cabinets. Make sure you leave enough space between the bed and the shelves to avoid head injuries.
RL Tip: Consider letting go of your side tables! You may install wall sconces as lighting in the bedroom.

Starter homes often have limited kitchen and dining areas so you may want to combine the two. Choose a vintage piece that can be used as an island, or commission a custom-made island/dining table like the one above. To make the most of the piece, you can add built-in shelves to serve as extra storage nook.

Leave no space unused! Corner shelves are great for holding decor pieces like photo frames, candles, and flower vases. Like recessed shelving, these corner wonders do not take up precious floor space.
