Take a Peek Inside this Bright and Cheerful Studio Apartment in Paris

Subtle hints of color complete this charming compact home

Injecting color into the home is one of the trickiest parts of decorating. Aside from picking the right shades for your walls, you also need to consider the hues of your furnishings and accessories. While you can always stick to safe neutrals and complementing colors, an unexpected pairing can give your space a unique and interesting feel, too. Those who’d like to take things slow and start with a few vibrant pops here and there can take inspiration from this rental apartment in Montmartre, Paris.

Renovated by interior designer Marion Alberge, the 25sqm space features lively yellows, subdued blues, wooden touches, and comfy furniture that complete the light and airy feel. Here are some color ideas that we can pick up from this home:

To serve as the background for the pieces and as the focal point of the entire unit, the designer chose to have a mustard yellow accent wall in the living area. This shade perfectly complements the gray sofa and the blue chair. Surprisingly, it doesn’t clash with the yellow curtains—thanks to the white walls, wooden furniture, and sheer drapes.

RL Tip: For your own living area, you can opt to have a mural instead.

Many homeowners choose a white palette to create an illusion of bigger space in a tiny kitchen. True enough, the white cabinets give the cooking corner a sleek and streamlined appeal.

In your own home, keep the kitchen from being too plain by adding appliances in fun colors—how about a pink blender or a red toaster? You can also add kitchen towels, utensils, and dinnerware in playful shades. You can drop by Roy & Biv in Glorietta or Daiso Japan in Megamall for a couple of finds.

A plain shelf can be a bit boring. Aside from displaying colorful décor and quirky pieces, you can also opt to paint the wall behind an open shelf to bring it to life. To keep up with the theme, the designer chose another shade of yellow and a fun pattern to liven up the white storage piece.

If you have a shelf at home and you want to give it an upgrade, you can choose quirky bookends or display some of your collections.

As much as possible, the bathroom needs to be free from clutter and any other distractions to keep it relaxing. Instead of adding too many accessories and vibrant catchalls, you can choose bright towels that you can hang instead. With this option, you get to merge function and décor in one.
