Working With Secondhand Furniture Can Be Fun, Too
Put those hand-me-downs to good use with these tips
Redecorate your space without spending much by going through old pieces rather than stocking up on all things new. Here are a few ways to repurpose everything from your grandmother's attic while keeping them fresh and current.
1. Consult an expert.
Homeowner Lizza Gutierrez turned to Resurrection Furniture to help revive most of the old furniture she brought in her home. While hacking Pinterest for DIY tips can be tempting, restoring pieces—especially ones that can have brittle bones—takes a lot of know-how. It's better to go in for a consultation with a pro to figure out costs and how much work needs to be done.
2. Scour fabric shops.
One way to give pieces an upgrade is by changing its upholstery. Consider trawling the fabric stores in Kamuning to find the perfect textures and colors of fabric. All you need is a little patience to score the perfect, most cost-effective cloth.
3. Create a catalog.
If you're dealing with several pieces that you don't know what to do with just yet, begin archiving them along with their dimensions. Keep a list as a handy reference for when you're ready to redo your space.
