Decorating Ideas For A Family Bedroom From An Interior Designer

In a perfect world, everyone in the family would have their own private space. However, in reality, sometimes we have to compromise and share a single room with other members of the family. To help you make the most of it, interior designer Ayet San Jose-Aniag shares some tips on how to maximize a small bedroom for a starter family. Check them out below:

1. Identify the space's main function. 

"It's not all about furnishing or accessories lang. Importante yung gamit ng bata or your stuff," she says. Prioritize function over beauty since it's a tight shared space. 

2. Move in all big or major furniture pieces first. 

This way, you can assess how much space to allot for smaller items. "Since you already have the bed, you already have the crib, eventually ma-determine mo yung size ng other furniture. For example, yung dresser, how big it's gonna be na lang. If it's 1.2 meters, .9 meters na lang pala."

3. Go for monotone. 

"Para nga din magmukhang malaki yung space since you know it's gonna be cramped already, have all the pieces in one color para magmukhang malaki yung space. And then, try not to put a lot of colors and patterns, kasi mas magiging busy yung space, mas magiging maliit." 

4. Try DIY decor.

Ayet suggests thoughtfully handcrafting decorative items to save money. Consider dainty pompoms hanging above the crib, framed children's book covers, a cloth organizer or a framed pair of baby shoes—these things will be sentimental for you and your kids, too.
