Creative Ways To Add Texture To Your Space

Say goodbye to spaces that look flat and drab

Sometimes, a room or space looks nice, but you can't help but feel that it seems to lack something. That missing detail might be texture. Add it with ease with the help of these ideas:

1. Use salvaged wood.

Take a cue from this bedroom. The headboard made from salvaged wood keeps the space from looking pale and clinical. It makes for a unique detail, too.

2. Deck your cabinet doors with grasscloth panels.

That's what interior designer Lisa Salvador did in this Chinoiserie-inspired unit. The grasscloth panels add warmth to this otherwise boring row of cabinets.

3. Keep your parquet flooring.

You might say, "It's dated!" But parque flooring adds warmth and a sense of history to a space. It's as if the space has been there for a long time, leaving room for nostalgia.

4. Ground a spot using raffia.

Raffia isn't just for creating flower bouquets. Architect Allen Oblena used raffia to anchor this small work area at the stairs landing of his bi-level unit. It serves as great alternative to paint or wallpaper as well.

5. Leave concrete walls unpainted.

This is a popular trick used in industrial-style spaces. Concrete walls add character, especially when it is complemented with bricks. The space looks casual but hip and edgy.
