You’ve finally decided on the type of home you’re buying, and now you’re faced with what seems to be a daunting list of home improvements. Before you get overwhelmed, take a deep breath and read up on what minor renovations you can start with to make your new home cozy and warm:

Repaint an area or your bedroom.

Before you undertake any major renovation, consider repainting your newly acquired home. You’d be surprised at how a gallon of paint can uplift your space and update its look. Check out realliving.com.ph for color palette ideas that would complement the size of your home as well as answer your needs. Do you have limited floor area? Add built-in storage and shelving units.

Aside from a splash of new color, you can have shelves and storage units built to make your home feel like new. These will not only provide you with storage areas to keep your home neat and orderly, but will also allow you to personalize your space. Have traditional shelves customized or opt for more modern styles that play with non-traditional materials such as pipes and planks. Make the most of your home’s nooks and crannies, and jazz up these storage areas with details that are out of the ordinary and reflect your unique personality.

Accessorize with mirrors.

A decorative yet functional way to beautify your home is to add a mirror or two in a room. These reflective surfaces offer interesting visual effects while creating an illusion of space in a room. Go for a full, wall-to-ceiling mirror or pick one with a geometric design or pattern for different look. Mirrors may be used as an alternative to wallpaper or tile for bathrooms and kitchens.

Experiment with wall decor.

Aside from paint, there are a host of other decorative options for wall finishes. A visit to a hardware store will yield options for wallpaper, laminates, and planks, while a trip to a fabric store can lead to creative inspiration for curtains and drapes. And remember: you don’t have to place these accent wall décor throughout the whole wall. Consider placing these in even just a small area of your wall for practical accent that you can easily replace when you feel like it.

Look into adding details and other embellishments.

Other minor changes you can consider for low-key home renovations that have major impact include changing minute details such as doorknobs, drawer pulls, and handles. Visit a vintage or secondhand store and look for antique door handles and pulls made of brass or glass in interesting shapes and sizes. You can also replace light switches and outlets covers, or add some crown molding to the ceiling for a quick update. Finally, bring in some easy to care for plants for that instant “face lift” for your home.

RL Tip: Whether you choose to make big or small changes, the important thing to keep in mind is to make your home your own. Little additions such as these will make a big difference in creating a home that reflects your personality and a space you’ll want to come home to every day.
