Artist Builds the World’s Smallest House

Talk about taking the tiny house movement to a whole new level!

It's no secret that the tiny house movement has grown popular in the last few years, especially to those who want to transition to a more sustainable and minimalist lifestlyle—from mobile campers to shipping containers-turned-homes, we've seen it all. But how small is too small? For artist Jeff Smith, it's 25 square feet (or 2.3sqm) and it is arguably the "smallest house in the world."


 

The sculptor, builder, and filmmaker created his tiny home as an art project and experiment in one. He wanted to build the smallest house in the world while trying to learn about “the limits are of a tiny house.”

His home, with only 38 inches of ceiling height, is made from a reclaimed farm door. It is complete with a working sink, a stovetop, a portable toilet, and a clear body size thermoplastic sheet container that serves as a shower (also invented by Smith). Light comes through the Pyrex portholes on both sides and the rooftop can be opened up to be a skylight at night. 


The best part? This tiny home is small enough to fit in a regular-sized van so transportation is not a problem for Jeff. It is listed on Airbnb, too, for those who would love to spend a night or two in the one-of-a-kind structure.
