5 Ways to Display Art at Home

These masterpieces aren’t just meant for the living room

Many homeowners use works of art—may it be a painting of a famous artist, a framed print, or even their own drawings—to liven up the home. More often than not, these pieces are used to spruce up plain walls, add a touch of color to the space, and even to serve as focal points in an area. If you’re looking into adding a few pieces in your own home, here are five ways to do it—as inspired by some of the houses that we’ve featured:

Use two medium-sized works of art to brighten up a compact breakfast nook that also serves as extra prep area in the kitchen. Depending on the theme that you are trying to achieve, you can opt for black-and-white prints or lively colors for a more playful appeal.

While an all-white palette can open up a space and make it more airy and spacious, it might look a bit boring in the long run. Keep your space from looking dull by choosing pieces with vibrant shades and bold hues. Aside from breaking the monotony of the walls, it can serve as an accent piece too.

How often do you see works of art in the bathroom? In Korina Sanchez-Roxas's condo in Taguig, the powder room highlights a couple of framed nude sketches by great Filipino artists. You may also want to personalize your private space with a couple of works you finished on your own or purchase pieces online that can add a quirky and personal touch to the T&B.

Do not be limited to canvas art and framed works, you can treat your wall as one huge canvas by painting a landscape or working on your DIY mural. In this family home, the owner painted the walls of his son's bedroom using low-VOC paints. If you are ready to paint your room, you can consider painting calming images and serene landscapes.

What better way to appreciate and showcase art at home than the moment you and your guests step into the space? In KC Concepcion's pad in Taguig, a painting by National Artist for Visual Arts Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera adorns one wall in the foyer. Take inspiration from this by displaying a huge work of art or even your favorite piece by your home's entrance. This can set the tone and feel of your space as well as leave a lasting impression on your guests.
