5 Ways to Enhance Your Foyer

Create a grand entrance for your guests with an organized and well-designed entryway

Make guests feel right at home by giving them a warm welcome each time they visit. You can transform your foyer into a focal point by simply keeping it clean and organized as well as by adding a couple of personal touches.

If you live in a condo or apartment with little space allotted for an entryway, there's no need to worry. You can still work with the space that you have and create an impact. Remember, hallways are usually underutilized spaces. So maximize your spot by creating an organized and purposeful nook.

Add mirrors.

A stylish mirror in the foyer can anchor the whole spot and create an illusion of space. This is very convenient when you’re about to go out and would want to do a last-minute check on your appearance.

Instead of going for the usual console table-and-mirror set, create a small gallery on the wall where you can incorporate your mirror. Add photographs and 3D wall décor for a more interesting mix.

Allocate a corner where you can change your footwear.

It’s in our culture to slip into house slippers or go barefoot once we enter a home. There are a lot of households that practice this, so why not provide a place to sit on when you and your guests change footwear? Placing a bench by the door will give you comfort. Plus, it can seat more than one person without adding any extra bulk.

RL Tip: Put a few boxes or baskets underneath the bench to hold shoes, slippers, and even occasional booties.

Add a storage bin for umbrellas and other items.

In condo homes, storage for umbrellas is often forgotten, but it’s essential to have one by the door. Try placing a simple wire basket or a tall cylindrical jar. Just add an old, folded-up bed sheet at the bottom of the bin to catch drips. Both bins will do the job without adding clutter as the basket has almost no visual weight, and the cylindrical jar takes up minimal floor area.

Be ready with catchalls.

We sometimes have the habit of emptying our pockets once we reach home. To keep your essentials in one place, drop your keys and loose change into a catchall. Use a small bowl or dish to designate where you can corral small items. To anchor its place in a vignette, incorporate decorative items such as a small potted plant and a book.
