5 Quirky Ways To Jazz Up Your Shelves

Let's add some character to this storage staple

Whether you're using your shelves to store your books or to display knickknacks, make sure they are not only neat but stylish as well. Add some personality to your shelves with these tips:

1. Paint the mouldings of your shelves with a bold color.

The hot pink mouldings pop against the all-white shelves in this room. They also help create depth, keeping the shelves from looking plain and two-dimensional.

2. Allot ample space between the objects displayed on your shelf.

Doing so will keep your shelves light on the eyes. It will also let you appreciate each and every item displayed on your shelf. A cramped shelf is never an attractive one.

3. Let all tiers be occupied.

If you have a slim shelf, like that on your TV wall, make it look put-together by placing at least one object on the tiers. It can be books or accessories—as long as there won't be any blank space that will stick out like a sore thumb.

4. Repaint your shelves with your favorite color.

There's nothing boring about this electric blue shelf. You don't even have to accessorize it anymore—the color alone already makes a statement.

5. Decorate your shelves with vinyl toys.

Complement your bestsellers with vinyl toys, especially if these toys are characters in your favorite books. This is a surefire way to add character to your shelf. Get collectible vinyl toys at Secret Fresh, G/L Ronac Art Center, Ortigas Ave., Greenhills, San Juan City.
