Have you ever experienced being out shopping, looking at store vignettes and thinking "That looks simple, I can do that." If you've tried doing it at home and you always end up with a final output that looks a little off, a few handy hints are in order. Styling vignettes isn't easy as people think, but it is possible—you just need a little patience, a bit of trial-and-error, and the right design techniques.

What are you waiting for? Get started on your fabulous display with these helpful tips:

1. Find a good spot.

Don't just set up a vignette anywhere with free space. Instead, strategically place it in a spot where people get to see it or where it can act as a focal point of the room. Try the center table, the console table behind the couch or an empty mid-shelf on your bookcase.

2. Add a living thing.

Including plants in your vignette isn't a strict requirement but adding a planter or two is a surefire way to bring it to life. Feel free to use one statement plant or a variety of small succulents for a fun display.

3. Layer in a light source.

To add depth to any display, lighting is key. A simple lamp is enough, but don't hesitate to get creative with any type of lighting—choose from string lights, Edison lamps, or good old candles.

4. Don't let it get too cluttered.

A vignette is supposed to draw your attention to a single spot. If your display is too busy, it distracts from the beauty of having a unique display. Make sure to only include items that have a similar color palette or are sentimental to you.

5. Keep things changing.

With vignettes, you don't have to stick to a single layout. If you ever get tired of your setup, go ahead and move a few things around. You can also add new pieces and remove old ones if you want to—don't be afraid to play with it!
