Origami Wall

Instantly create an impact using origami art. You may use classic origami cranes in three different colorsbut you can stick to a single color, or use paper with different patterns.

What you'll need:

  • Origami paper (or art paper cut into squares: take one corner and fold down so that top edge is in line with side edge. This will form a triangle. Cut excess paper and open the triangle to reveal a square.)
  • Masking tape

  1. Check out how to fold origami cranes at and start folding. It may take a while to perfect it, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be folding paper cranes in no time!
  2. When you’re done folding, place masking tape on one side of each bird and stick them to the wall. Create variety by having some cranes with their wings up and some with wings down, and follow a wavy pattern to make the birds look like they are “flying” across your wall.

Lyrics on Canvas

Abstracts and landscapes are great, but why not paint your favorite lyrics instead? It’s fun, it’s different, and it can evoke a good feeling or memory.

What you'll need:

  • Canvas frame
  • Paint
  • Fine paintbrush

  1. Choose your lyrics. It may be the beginning of a song, a verse, or a chorus. The number of words you include will depend on the size of the canvas and how big your lettering is.
  2. Outline your words with a pencil first, so it’s easier to adjust if needed. If you want the letters to look neater, draw on guide lines with a light pencil and a ruler.
  3. Once you’re satisfied with your spacing, start painting!

Washi Tape Tray

Liven up your old serving tray by decorating it with washi tape! Washi tapes can add instart charm to your tray, which you can also use as storage for your accessories.

What you'll need:

  • Washi tape
  • Serving tray
  • Ruler
  • Scissors

  1. Depending on the size and shape of your tray, determine the part you want to apply washi tape on.
  2. If your tray is square or rectangular, start at the edges and overlap at the corners. If your tray is round or oval, start at the corners and apply diagonal strips of tape.

Instant Sculpture

Here’s a cheap alternative to buying costly decor: Look for an old item at home—you’re sure to have something lying around—and spruce it up with paint. Here, wooden finials from a broken curtain rod were painted in clean, crisp white.

What you'll need:

  • Any old item that has a nice shape, like a vintage toy, a figurine, or an architectural piece that has interesting details, such as a finial or corbel
  • Spray paint

  1. Make sure your chosen object is clean. Sand it if needed, and then start spray painting.
  2. Allow to dry, then display.

Throw Pillow

Is your pillow plain and simple? Jazz it up by placing a couple of mismatched buttons and a new cover.

What you'll need:

  • Plain throw pillow
  • Super glue
  • Buttons

  1. Map out the pattern you want on a piece of paper. If you don’t have a pattern in mind, just go freestyle or use simple shapes for the design.
  2. Replicate the pattern on your pillow by sketching it with tailor’s chalk.
  3. Attach the buttons on the pillow using super glue.
  4. Let the super glue dry and make sure all the buttons are securely in place.
