5 Design Ideas We Can Learn from Bloggers' Spaces

Their homes are just as inspiring as the things they write about

Gone are the days when blogs are simply online personal journals. Today's bloggers have become personalities who have earned their rightful places as sources of information and inspiration—whether it’s in fashion, food, home, or lifestyle.

Here, we take a peek inside the stylish spaces of three bloggers. Cop out these ideas to make your spaces chic as well:

1. Mix different colors and patterns in your living room.

With a neutral couch as backdrop, you can go subtle or bold or a combination of both in terms of accessories. Take a cue from the livinga rea of mom blogger Martine De Luna of Make It Blissful. Play with pillows of different shapes, sizes, and colors. A patterned rug to pull everything together is a great addition, too. Then, jazz up your wall with photo frames or any wall décor you fancy.

2. A baby’s crib doesn’t need to have a plastic, colorful mobile.

Some toys and furniture for kids are, let’s admit it, eyesores—they’re cute, but they don’t mix well with the rest of the pieces in the room. To keep this from happening, Martine also created an age-appropriate but still sophisticated sleeping space for her baby daughter. Gray and beige accessories keep this nook from looking too kiddie.

3. Keep an organized bookshelf by grouping your books by color.

Architect and mom blogger Arlene Sanchez Maslog of Make Room for Bliss did just that with her shelves in her home office. Arranging them by color and size helped her achieve a neat look. And with books arranged on horizontal stacks, it’s easy to read the titles on the spines.

4. Add flair to an office chair.

Who says an office chair should be the leather, swivel-type kind? Arlene jazzed up a white plastic chair with a seat cushion covered in damask fabric. Buy ready-made seat cushions in department stores, or better yet, make your own!

5. Bring out your collection.

Blogger and photographer Mitch Mauricio of Anik-Anik Love is more than happy to showcase her collection of various knickknacks—travel souvenirs, a vintage camera, photos from her exhibits, vinyl toys, and books—in her space. These things may not match at first glance, but when put together, they add character to a space. Do the same with your collection, too.
