5 Answers To Usual Small Space Problems

Limited spaces shouldn't hinder you from enjoying a comfortable home

“How can I maximize my small home?" This might be the question that homeowners usually ask themselves. Keep in mind that to be able to make the most of small spaces, every nook and cranny should be utilized.

Architect and decorator Fe Porciuncula sheds some light on common small space problems and how to solve them.

I don’t have space for my guests

Solution: Instead of using a coffee table, choose ottoman stools instead.

Do you have seating problems when your friends or relatives come over? Try to skip the usual coffee table and make use of ottoman stools. Ottomans can provide additional seats for your guests while moonlighting as secret storage solutions for pillows, magazines, and books.

RL Tip: Anchor the area with either a simple or an attention-grabbing piece, like a graphic black-and-white rug.

I don't have a space for a console table

Solution: Use your dining table as a console table.

Architect Fe suggests that you set a small table against a wall so that it can serve as a console table when not in use. Place decorative elements on top such as candles or succulents, then move them out when it’s time for meals.

I don't know how to work with colors

Solution: Play with colors to achieve depth.

Depth creates an illusion of more space and makes a home stylish in a subtle way. You can use pieces with different textures or pieces in the same color family. Fe suggests making a color palette more interesting by alternating the dominating colors.

I don’t know where to store beddings

Solution: Install drawers underneath your bed.

If you’re having a bed custom-made, might as well ask for an additional storage underneath. This is a suitable area for stashing beddings or seasonal clothes. You can also add free standing shelves inside your closet to avoid a cluttered space.

I don’t have a work area

Solution:  Assign a corner as a workspace.

It’s possible to have a workspace, even in a small space! Fe says you can transform a plain corner into a study area by installing a free standing table and overhead shelves.

RL Tip: Choose colors that will create continuity. If your walls are in neutral tones then it would be a great idea to choose a table or a shelf that is in the same color family as well.
