4 Ways To Transform Your Balcony Into A Special Spot

Shake things up and turn a dull corner into a stylish space

If we asked you to take a look at your balcony right now, what would you see?

For most of us, we use this space in our condo units and apartments as a utility area—a place to park folding bikes, hang up laundry or even as storage for things we don't need—but that shouldn't be the case. Every nook in our home should give us a sense of delight and comfort.

Don't worry, with a little creativity, you can turn this uninteresting area into a snug spot for chilling out and having fun. Here are four photo pegs that can inspire you to get started.

If you don't have enough room for a man cave or a she-shed, you can consider converting your balcony into the private sanctuary you want to have. Ditch the furniture and choose a platform mattress to serve as a place for enjoying a nap or taking in the lush view. You can also play up warm colors like coral and yellow to brighten up your space.

To create a makeshift hangout for guests, you can try using a compact daybed. Maximize the huge windows with neutral roller shades or pastel-colored sheer curtains while you can leave the white walls and ceiling as is to make the space feel fresh and light.

RL Tip: You can also install floating shelves to display indoor plants for a more homey feel.

Don't let a concrete condo balcony stop you from building a cozy corner. Give it a little bit of rustic charm by adding blankets and pillows in unique materials like faux-fur that can double as seating. You can also add plants and knickknacks in various shapes and sizes on the windowsill to help reinforce the notion that it's an outdoor space.

For incredibly tight spaces, skylights are installed to open up the home to the outdoors. Carve out a spot with a basic sofa and give it the vibe of an exterior deck with plush throws and indoor plants.

RL Tip: You can also add a small side table where you can place a stack of books. Spaces like these are great spots for reading during daytime.
