Country-style interiors are easy to fall in love with. Sure, not everybody likes this style, but there’s something comforting and heartwarming in seeing simple pieces made beautiful by the passing of time, coupled by a light color palette and accessories that tell a lot of stories.

If you want this style for your home, get inspired by makeup artist Robbie Pinera’s 125sqm condo unit. Here are some tips:

1. Furnish your home with flea market or thrift store finds.

There’s nothing more quaint than old bergeres or King Louis-style armchairs that have been naturally distressed over time. Head to Evangelista Street in Bangkal, Makati City to score these bargain finds. You can also have these chairs painted in a light color and have the surface distressed. If you want to have a more updated look, you can have the chair reupholstered in a fabric of your choice.

2. Go for a muted palette of light blues and whites.

Nothing else spells French country style than blues and whites. Don’t just stick to wall paint—play around with soft furnishings and accessories. The important thing is to keep the look subdued—nothing too bold or dramatic that takes the focus away from the totality of the space.

3. Choose old-world accessories.

Raid your favorite thrift store and look for bust sculptures, beveled or gilded frames and mirrors, and lamps with baluster bases, among others. You can also add water color paintings that depict the countryside like farms and meadows. Display these accessories in your foyer, living room, or in your bedroom.

4. Add warm lighting.

Ditch the generic T5 white bulbs. Illuminate areas using floor lamps or simple chandeliers with warm white light bulbs. You can even go for toile de jouy lamp shades to complete your French countryside look.
