4 Ways To Achieve A Mexican Style-Inspired Kitchen

Spice up your scullery with these tips and tricks

It's almost effortless to spot a Mexican style-inspired kitchen. From the lively colors, high beam ceilings and intricate details, one look and you'll know that the space is inspired by the rich culture of Mexico. If your cooking corner is looking a little bland and you want to liven it up, check out these design ideas that can give your home a South of the Border vibe.

1. Don't be afraid to make bold choices.

When it comes to Mexican-inspired interiors, don't hesitate to mix colors, prints and styles. Contrasting shades of mustard and teal can instantly make a space stand out, but if you're unsure about using a strong base, you can go with a non-hue like beige and pair it with a cool tone instead.

2. Go for vintage-inspired furniture.

Mexican and Filipino households have one thing in common—we're fond of merging the kitchen with the dining area. To make sure your furniture goes with the theme of your scullery, pick out pieces with distressed details and rustic touches.

Find similar at Pottery Barn, Estancia Mall.

3. Experiment with patterned tiles

Mexican kitchens are known for Talavera tiling, however, since it can be expensive to get your hands on the real deal, you can always use Hispanic-style tiles to achieve a similar look. Feel free to use it wherever you like—the backsplash, sink window, countertops, and even on the floor.

Get them locally at Wilcon Home Depot, Pasong Tamo, Makati City.

4. Invest in smart storage and shelving.

Wooden cabinets and dark-washed shelving are a staple in every Mexican kitchen, make sure you invest in similar pieces to help keep your space both beautiful and functional. If you aren't a big fan of brown tones, you can try pastel-colored patina for a homey feel.

Find similar at Crate and Barrel, Mega Fashion Hall, Mandaluyong City.
