4 Ways to Brighten Up a Dark Room

Never worry about spaces in your home with little light. Let these tips guide you

Are you staying in a room with minimal natural light streaming in or a space with dark walls? You can easily solve these problems with a little DIY magic.

If you are renting the space and cannot do major renovations, interior designer Jean Suzanne Sy shares that you can work with what you have to improve your space. "If you accessorize the room with the right [source] of light and choose essentials such as neutral colored sheets and accessories, you can easily lighten it up," she shares.

Use neutral colored sheets

You can never go wrong with light-colored sheets. The contrast of the dark wall with the white sheets will definitely make the space appear brighter! If you want to try something new, try using neutral shades such as green or blue for your sheets to make it seem more relaxing. According to color psychology, these colors add a cozy and relaxing vibe to a space.

Hang frames with white matting

“Try hanging frames with a light background to help break the dullness of the room,” Jean suggests. This also helps add a "dramatic" factor to the space.

Add a splash of color

To balance out the dark color used in your space, add pops of color such as accessories in vibrant colors like a bright red chair or yellow decor pieces. “You can also add pink hydrangeas or peonies. These plants work well with dark blue walls," Jean shares.

Place a table lamp on the side table

Aside from relying on your overhead lighting, you may also add a small lamp on your bedside table. You need not buy a new piece, simply upcycle an old lamp at home. Click here for the step-by-step guide
