4 Ways to Decorate a Shared Bedroom
Avoid sibling conflicts with the help of these tips
You love shades like yellow and pink. Your sister prefers neutral hues like gray. We're sure that your rooms showcase different styles. But what if you need to share one bedroom? How can you peacefully co-exist while displaying the things you love?
The trick is to arrive at a compromise! You can channel your personality and your brother or sister can furnish the space with his or her chosen pieces, too. Be guided by these tips:
Shop for furniture together
“Buy big furniture pieces together,” says interior designer and RL style editor Dagny Madamba. This is especially important for shared pieces like a dining set or a sofa. Turn it into a bonding activity! Consult each other on which piece will work best in your space.
Compromise is key
“Hindi namin pinipilit yung style namin sa isa’t isa. We explore what we have in common aesthetically—no matter how few they are,” says interior designer and RL associate stylist Tala Singson, who shares a condo unit with her twin.
Consider home décor pieces as presents
“Give home décor as gifts so you both get to use it,” adds Tala. Since Christmas is just a few weeks away, it’s nice to have new accessories at home. Plus, it’s also a clever way of mixing your own style with your siblings.
According to Tala, it’s also best to go for neutral walls. You may inject each of your preferred colors via small décor pieces.
