A plain space can be the perfect canvas if you want to decorate and accessorize to your heart's content. In the bathroom alone, you can work on different styling techniques to perk up the space. If you think that your bathroom is dull and needs a bit of personality, here are must-do ideas from interior designer Rochelle Granali:

Finalize the style or theme

Before you buy accessories and decor pieces, you must first finalize the theme and style that you want to have. Are you going for an eclectic or Zen vibe? "Once you've decided on your theme, it's easier for you to pick the stuff that suit your tastes," Rochelle explains.

Accessorizing is key

To make the look more interesting, you need to pick the right set of accessories. "You can add a rug with a cool quote or even place indoor plants such as aloe vera or spider plants to freshen up your bathroom,” the designer suggests.

RL Tip: Since you will be spending precious hours in the bathroom each morning, you can fill the space with items that put a smile on your face. It can be a favorite quote that can help motivate and inspire you.

Add accent colors

You can also add an accent wall in the bathroom. If you're planning to renovate just in time for the New Year, you can work with the 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year—Serenity and Rose Quartz.

RL Tip: Use Serenity or Rose Quartz as part of your wall accent—consider working with stripes to create an illusion of bigger space. If you're not yet ready to paint the wall, you can simply choose accessories in these soft shades.

Work with interesting textures

If you want to stick with the color white, you can brighten up the space by adding textures through furniture. Create a warm haven by adding wooden elements and woven baskets. Tiles with fun patterns and prints can also add life to a plain space.
