A little creativity is all you need to add a unique touch to your bedroom

Our bedrooms are our safe havens—a place for relaxation and rest to get us ready for a brand new day. That is probably why, from the flooring to the furnishing, we try our best to make sure it always looks its best.

To achieve this, you may choose bright-colored linens over plain sheets. Of course you can also add a statement piece like a headboard. To help you out, we've listed down 3 DIY headboards that are not only adorable, you can have them finished before bedtime!

Boat paddles

Take a Coastal-themed room to the next level by using repurposed boat paddles. Pick out ones that come in different washes to add texture to your finished piece. Consider adding pillows in the same nautical palette to contrast the neutral colors of the headboard.

Repurposed Railing

For those who have a penchant for all things Shabby Chic, a recessed metal garden gate or old picket fence would make the perfect accent to a dainty sleeping area. Start by cutting up the upcycled fence into smaller pieces then fitting it into a frame made from weathered lumber. Give it a fresh coat of varnish in different stains to make it look brand new.

RL Tip: You can also experiment with accessorizing using antiques like old ladders, wooden trays and floral-printed fixtures to add to the room's vintage charm.

Antique Doors

Solid wood headboards made from Mahogany and Narra may run you a huge sum of money. Before blowing your savings away, try creating an alternative that's just as intricate using an old salvaged door. The beauty of this DIY project is that it's completely customizable—all you have to do is saw the door down to the size you need and use a little paint to give it a new finish.
