How To Choose The Right Type of Flooring For Your Home

Hardwood? Ceramic Tiles? Laminate? Know which one is best for each room

Choosing the right type of flooring for any given area is crucial in any home. Flooring is subjected to a lot of wear and tear—you walk on it, you put heavy furniture on it, your kids run, roll, and frolic on it. Using the wrong type of flooring may lead to early deterioration of the material or even accidents. Prevent these from happening with the help of this quick guide:

1. For entrances and corridors

Entrances and corridors are subjected to a lot of foot traffic, hence, flooring in these areas should be durable. Ceramic tiles are a budget-friendly flooring choice. They are easy to clean, are waterproof, and come in different designs and textures that can suit any style of home. Machuka tiles are also a good choice, thanks to their lovely patterns and durability.

2. For the kitchen

The kitchen is subjected to high amounts of moisture because of all the cooking, washing, and food preparation done in the area. Ceramic and porcelain tiles suit kitchens because of their durability. They also come in different styles and price points. Just make sure the tiles are unglazed to prevent slipping and other accidents.

3. For your kids' rooms

Carpet or carpet tiles are an excellent choice for your kids’ rooms because they are soft—a must for kids’ rooms because of the variety of activities that your little ones do. Choose carpet tiles with designs that can mask stains. However, if your kids have asthma, allergies, or have pets, veer away from using carpet tiles. Go for vinyl tiles because they are soft underfoot, are budget-friendly, and are easy to clean. You can also use rubber mats as an alternative.

4. For your TV room or entertainment room

Carpet or carpet tiles can help absorb sound in your TV room. You can also use hardwood and engineered wood. They work just as well in sound absorption, add warmth to a room, and are easy to maintain.

5. For the bathroom

Just like the kitchen, the bathroom is also a hard-working area. It is also subjected to a lot of moisture. Ceramic tiles suit bathrooms best because of its low maintenance and affordability. Go for unglazed tiles or tiles with a bit of texture so your bathroom floor won’t be slippery. You can also use porcelain tiles and natural stone—they’re beautiful and classy but are expensive.
