Q: I'd like to know how to come up with the best roofing design for our open garage. Our front area serves as a garage for our family car since we parallel-park outside. Could you recommend a good and modern covered garage design which is not too complicated and not heavy on the pocket?—Raffy Singson
A: I'm not an expert on roof design so it's best you consult with an architect regarding this. Have a professional assess the site and ask him or her for suggestions on the best way to add the new garage roof to the existing structure.
However, here are some basic tips: Use the simplest design possible because complicated roofs are more prone to leaks. If you want an instant, inexpensive solution, you can install a tarp/tent to cover your car. It serves its purpose although it's not that pretty.
If I were you, I would invest in something more permanent because this roof addition affects the facade and overall value of your home.
