Q: My husband and I are both fond of wooden furniture—the real kind, not the MDF (medium-density fiberboard) type that's popular nowadays. How do we incorporate hardwood furniture or details in our small apartment without overwhelming it? — Laarni, Manila
A:Â Hardwood is definitely a sturdier choice, but don't go overboard with it! Choose main pieces made with hardwood to anchor the room, and then mix in other materials and textures to soften the look. I would go for a wooden dining table with leather-upholstered chairs, or a wooden TV cabinet with an upholstered sofa.
